Natural compost at home

You can make natural compost at home

In recent times we have often been talking about switching to a natural, organic system. As a result, many are now setting up terraces in their own homes to grow the vegetables and fruits they need, as much as they can. Many people who are accustomed to growing plants at home do not know how to make compost naturally. Many people think that making compost at home is a very difficult job. But the rotten vegetables and fruits that we throw away after cooking can be used as the best fertilizer if we use them properly. Compost can be made at home in two basic methods, Hot and Cold. The Gold method involves pouring fruits, vegetables, vegetable skins, distilled coffee powder, eggshells, etc. into a pot or pit and keeping it covered as it is. After about a year they all decompose and form compost. But consider that one has to wait a year for this.

Hot compost requires nitrogen, carbon, good air, and water. All of these together form the food for the microbes. They accelerate the composting time. That means the compost is ready to use for our garden in just three months. Similarly, another method used by large organic fertilizer companies is vermicompost. I.e. making compost using earthworms. Earthworms are high in nitrogen in their food waste. Not all worms can be used for this. Earthworms called red worms are best for this process.

What can be composted?

Can be used as compost for decomposing vegetable waste, fruit waste, distilled coffee powder, eggshells, greens, dried leaves, sawdust and sawdust, shredded newspapers, straw, etc. Think twice before mixing lemon peel, onion, and garlic with the fertilizer. The reason is that they are believed to destroy the earthworms that cause composting.

Which of the following should not be used as compost?

Fertilizers containing meat, oil, fat, viscous, diseased plants, processed wood, pet waste such as dogs and cats, and dairy products should not be used in fertilizers. These can ruin the garden and the bad smell that arises from it can attract animals and insects.

A simple method of making compost:

Combine the green and brown waste needed to fill the pit 3 feet deep. I.e. mix both moist and dry ingredients together. It is best to combine one part green waste with three parts brown waste to get good nutrient compost. This fertilizer should not be too wet. Whereas it should not be too dry. So spray it daily with a little water and keep it slightly moisturized. Adding too much water will kill the microorganisms in the manure. Thus instead of composting the mixture will rot. Stir once a week to get oxygen to all parts of the mixture. It is better to stir the mixture when the temperature is high. If your mixture is completely dry and turns brown, it's time to take it to the garden. Apply 4 to 6 inches of this fertilizer in your flowerpots and you will see the plants thrive.
