Vibrant Perennials That Bloom All Summer
It doesn’t take much work to keep these flowering plants blooming all summer long. Once planted, these summer-blooming perennials will do the work for you, creating beautiful colors for you to enjoy on warm days in your garden.
1. Delightful Daylily
The Sunny Gold Hemerocallis ‘Stella d’Oro’ daylily lights up the garden with trumpet-shaped yellow flowers all season long. This hardy perennial that blooms all summer long makes a mockery of hot, dry conditions. It makes a wonderful combination with blue ornamental onion (Allium azureum).
2. ‘Immortality’ Reblooming Iris
Known for its reliable display of snow-white flowers in spring and again in fall, ‘Immortality’, a stunning tall bearded iris, is one of the easiest perennials to grow. The curly flowers are borne on stems that reach 30 inches tall above sword-like leaves.
3. Repeat Blooming Pink
Enjoy the fragrance of pink with Bloomerang (Syringa 'Penta') in spring and from mid-summer to fall. This compact variety fits nicely into any garden, growing only 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. This perennial, which blooms all summer, produces a heavy crop of lavender-purple flowers that are perfect for cutting.
4. Heavenly Hydrangea
Most hydrangeas bloom once and bloom for the season, but Endless Summer blooms on new growth - so you can enjoy blooms multiple times each summer. For gardeners in colder climates where winter damage prevents other hydrangeas from blooming, 'Endless Summer' ensures a spectacular display.
5. A Reliable Reblooming Rose
Beautiful knockout roses are some of the easiest plants you can grow in your garden. They bloom almost continuously all summer and are virtually disease-free and hardy. Shown here is 'Pink Double Knockout'; the series also includes red, double red, single pink, yellow and more.
6. Climb to new heights with clematis
Gorge your garden with clematis 'Jackmanii'. Its royal purple petals cover the plant in early summer, and it blooms sporadically for the rest of the growing season.
7. Deep Purple Delight
'May Night' (Salvia x sylvestris) is a perennial salvia that, as you might guess from its name, produces a stunning display of deep purple spires in late spring. However, if you cut them back when the flowers start to fade, it will bloom again in late summer.
8. Profusely Blooming Bleeding Heart
Fringed bleeding heart (Dicentra eximia) is the perfect size for semi-shaded small-space gardens. While older varieties bloom only once in spring, this little dynamo is a perennial that blooms all summer long. It slows down on hot days but picks up speed again in fall.
9. ‘Rosan’ Reblooming Perennial Geranium
With vivid purple flowers from late spring through fall until frost, Geranium ‘Rosan’ makes a colorful statement in partial shade to full sun. The spreading plant can reach 3 feet wide, producing beautiful foliage to bloom.
